Perspectives of the ASHA Special Interest Groups (Perspectives) is pleased to announce the selection of Teresa Girolamo, PhD, as incoming editor-in-chief of the journal. Dr. Girolamo will begin her term on January 1, 2026, succeeding Dr. Monique T. Mills. Dr. Girolamo is an assistant professor in the School of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at San Diego State University, where she serves as the director of the Brain, Environment, and Language Lab.
Dr. Girolamo’s Background
Dr. Girolamo earned a master’s degree as part of the Child Language Doctoral Program at The University of Kansas in 2016 and a PhD from the same program in 2021. She is currently serving as editor for the Language section of JSLHR, where she has been an editorial board member since 2023. She has served as a guest editor for Perspectives and the American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology (AJSLP) and has been a peer reviewer for all five of ASHA’s journals.
Dr. Girolamo has published her own original research in each of ASHA’s speech- and language-related journals,and her overall body of work has been cited more than 500 times. Her research interests include autism, language impairment, and language acquisition.

Perspectives publishes peer-reviewed research and scholarly articles that help bridge the gap between research and clinical practice in the discipline. Perspectives has four editors-in-chief serving 20 topic areas. Dr. Girolamo will oversee content in the following areas:

- Craniofacial and Velopharyngeal Disorders
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication
- School-Based Issues
