The Alfred K. Kawana Award for Lifetime Achievement in Publications
This award, named in memory of the late Alfred K. Kawana, former Director of ASHA Publications, recognizes a sustained history of exemplary publications by a scholar whose journal contributions span a period of at least 10 years and are meritorious in their educational, scientific, or clinical value. 2024 Kawana Awardee: Karla K. McGregor, PhD, CCC-SLP, BCS-CL
Dr. Karla K. McGregor is a Senior Scientist and the Director of the Word Learning Laboratory in the Center for Childhood Deafness, Language, and Learning at Boys Town National Research Hospital. She is Professor Emerita at The University of Iowa and a former Honorary Professor at The University of Sydney. Dr. McGregor is an ASHA Fellow and was awarded Honors of the Association in 2023. She has made significant contributions to the study of child language and developmental language disorders. Dr. McGregor’s contributions to the ASHA Journals span 25 years and have been recognized with three Editor’s Awards.
Editor’s Awards
An Editor’s Award is awarded by each editor-in-chief from AJA, AJSLP, LSHSS, JSLHR, and by each of the four editors-in-chief of Perspectives of the ASHA Special Interest Groups for the article that the editor-in-chief and editors believe meets the highest quality standards in research design, presentation, and impact for a given year.
