The Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research (JSLHR) is pleased to announce the selection of Vishakha Rawool, PhD, as the next editor-in-chief of the Hearing section of the journal. Dr. Rawool will begin her term on January 1, 2027, succeeding Dr. Rachel Frush Holt, CCC-A. Dr. Rawool is the associate dean for research and a professor in the Waters College of Health Professions at Georgia Southern University.
Dr. Rawool’s Background
Dr. Rawool earned her master’s degree in speech-language pathology from The University of Texas at El Paso in 1984, and she earned her PhD from Purdue University in 1989. She served as an editor for JSLHR from 2023 to 2025.
Dr. Rawool has served as an author or co-author on nearly 100 articles during the past 35 years, and her work has garnered more than 1,000 citations. Her research interests include hearing loss, hearing conservation, auditory processing deficits, aging, and remote collaborative communication.

Articles are published in the journal’s Speech, Language, and Hearing sections, each with its own roster of editors and editorial board members.
JSLHR (published as the Journal of Speech and Hearing Research [JSHR] from 1958 through 1996) is ASHA’s largest and oldest journal, with the Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders [JSHD]—begun in 1936—having been merged with JSHR in 1991.
