When looking for resources on a hot topic in the sciences, knowing where to start is half the challenge. Luckily, we’ve done some of the work for you—with two new Special Collections!
Special Collections bring together various ASHA resources—from the ASHA Journals, The ASHA Leader, the ASHA Evidence Maps, and our webpages—on trending topics in the sciences. The latest two Special Collections spotlight Generative AI and School Service Delivery.
Generative AI and its Applications
People around the world are using generative artificial intelligence (AI) to help them with everything from parsing research to making a grocery list. Whether you’re already using generative AI in your work or waiting to learn more, this ASHA Journals Special Collection on Generative AI has the tools for you.
The articles included here come from across ASHA’s journals and contain resources on AI-assisted speech therapy and speech sound analysis. A number of articles discuss current perceptions on AI as well as its role in the future of the professions.
Articles in The ASHA Leader discuss practical how-tos of automating documentation and creating treatment materials. The authors emphasize both the potential of AI and the ways that you can responsibly implement it.
Even if you’re on the go, you can still stay connected to your field and updated with the latest knowledge:
- Listen to an episode of ASHA Voices on how AI helps users of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
- Watch an event on ASHA Stream (our video content hub) from the comfort of your favorite device.
Finally, if you need ASHA continuing education units (CEUs), the collection contains links to courses where you can receive credit for learning about the practical and ethical uses of AI. Just click on one of the links within, and start learning!
School Service Delivery
Schools are the most common work setting for ASHA members, with 40% of ASHA’s audiologists and speech-language pathologists (SLPs) working in schools. Another new resource is ASHA’s Special Collection on School Service Delivery—which highlights key topics in school services.
More than 30 curated articles from ASHA’s Journals cover topics that include these:
- telepractice
- speech sound disorders
- language and literacy
- traumatic brain injury
Ten articles from The ASHA Leader Live address hot topics like universal design for learning and helping bilingual students succeed.
A collection of episodes of the ASHA Voices podcast includes interviews on topics like dialects in the classroom and building skills for life after high school. Listen as ASHA members discuss these issues and more in their own words.
Finally, the collection’s “Additional Resources” section contains further reading on service delivery and advocacy. If you’re looking for even more articles, follow the links to our Evidence Maps as well as ASHA’s Practice Portal on Multilingual Service Delivery.
More Curated Special Collections
If you found our School Service Delivery Special Collection helpful, be sure to check out our related collections on topics like Engaging With Teacher Unions and Education Associations and Postsecondary Transitions. You can also read more about the role of AI in treating speech disorders in a forum published last year in JSLHR.
These two new collections join our growing list of Special Collections—each one curated by ASHA staff to provide top resources in one place. Putting together these issues is another way we’re making resources more easily available for ASHA members.
We hope that these two Special Collections give you some new ideas and insights!
