Motor speech disorders encompass a variety of diagnoses and clients that you work with every day. Last year, speech scientists, clinicians, and physicians gathered to discuss new developments in motor speech disorders like apraxia of speech and dysarthria. We’re bringing you two special issues covering research and innovations from the 2024 edition of the Motor Speech Conference.
Clinical Science and Implications
A special issue in the American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology (AJSLP) features 11 articles full of clinically relevant research for speech-language pathologists (SLPs). Guest Editor Katarina L. Haley has compiled resources covering all ages and a variety of conditions—from childhood apraxia of speech and pediatric dysarthria to older adults with Parkinson’s disease. You can use information in the issue to better assess and test individuals with motor speech disorders.
Basic Science and Clinical Innovation
A complementary issue in the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research (JSLHR) highlights basic science and clinical innovation. Guest Editor Maria Grigos worked with researchers who presented at the 2024 conference to publish 13 articles highlighting new and novel research. Topics include stuttering, vocal tremor, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and understanding speech intelligibility.
