As we near the end of 2024, it’s tempting to turn our calendars ahead early. However, it’s also important to look back at our accomplishments.

More than 800 articles featuring resources for ASHA members were published in 2024. In total, 35 new issues including more than 12,000 pages of research, reviews, and updates are now available for  you to explore.

Thank You So Much!

We couldn’t bring this work to you without the work of hundreds of esteemed experts who make up our editorial boards.

  • We’d like to thank our editors-in-chief and editors for guiding the content of our publications and recruiting contributions from top authors.
  • Our editorial board members (EBMs) and ad hoc reviewers ensure the quality and integrity of every article we publish. Thank you for all that you do!

More than 1,000 authors worked to bring their research and ideas to our members this year. We’d like to thank all of them as well for their time and their dedication to the sciences.

More Ways to Find Us Online

ASHA Journals have been on social media for nearly a decade, with accounts on X (formerly Twitter) for ASHA’s acronym journals (AJA, AJSLP, JSLHR, and LSHSS) and Perspectives. Now, we’re expanding our reach with dual accounts on BlueSky as well.

  • Follow @ASHAJournals on X and BlueSky

Subject Classifications and Inclusionary Data

This year, we updated our online manuscript submission system to allow authors to choose from more than 480 subject classifications that best suit their manuscript. Reviewers choose from the same list, indicating their areas of expertise. These expanded classifications will help editors match papers with subject matter experts more quickly during peer review.

As we mentioned above, the ASHA Journals are truly a global operation! To that end, and in line with ASHA’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, we’re giving our contributors the opportunity to provide us with demographic information in their account. Including this information can help us spot trends and ensure that our editorial boards reflect the diversity of the individuals that ASHA members work with every day.

A New Reading Experience

Finally, you may have noticed a change to our article pages. Designed with accessibility in mind, you’ll notice a cleaner look, while having access to the same features you already enjoy.

When visiting an article on ASHAWire, you’ll find a reading experience free from distractions. Of course, you still have the option to view metrics and citations, references, and more using the right-hand tool bar. We’ve also worked to improve our recommended articles, offering more relevant related articles from across ASHA’s journals alongside each article.

See You in 2025!

Finally, we’d like to thank you, our readers, for ensuring another successful year for ASHA’s journals. Once again, our readership has surpassed 2.6 million downloads, growing for the fifth consecutive year, including downloads from more than 200 countries. It’s your passion for the latest in communication sciences and disorders that fuel our efforts.

Our resolution for 2025 is to continue to bring all ASHA members hundreds of articles of original research, reviews, case studies, and more. We’ll see you next week, when we review some of our most popular articles of the year, in case you missed them.
