Am I required to opt into Open Access publishing if my research was funded by NIH?

Open access is not required for articles based on research funded by NIH. Articles accepted prior to July 1, 2025, are made publicly available via PMC, in their final published form, 6 months after publication in issue. Articles accepted on or after July 1, 2025, are made publicly available via PMC upon publication in issue. Open access offers the benefit of the author retaining copyright, and free access for all users on the ASHAWire site, including all of its enhancements over the PubMed version.
