This collection for the Journal of Speech, Language and Hearing Research (JSLHR) seeks to encourage research that offers insights into the mechanisms for individual variability in hypokinetic dysarthria resulting from Parkinson’s disease.
Speech changes due to Parkinson’s disease span a wide range of symptoms, which are not always related to the years since diagnosis or the progression of motor symptoms. For this reason, group-level analyses may miss important individual-level contributors to speech symptoms. The goal of this collection is to (1) highlight the importance of considering individual differences in Parkinson’s disease and their relation to speech symptoms, (2) promote research designs that take into account individual-level variability in Parkinson’s disease, and (3) identify individual characteristics that are relevant to speech research in Parkinson’s disease.
The following article types will be considered: Research Article, Research Note, and Review Article. Consistent with the mission of JSLHR, we seek to publish original, important, and innovative studies based on quantitative, qualitative, laboratory, clinical, or other empirical methods. Authors are encouraged to contact the Editor (d.abur@rug.nl) if they have questions or would like to discuss potential submissions.
Submission deadline: Manuscripts should be submitted by January 5, 2024 to be considered as part of this collection. A letter of intent to submit (sent to the Editor at d.abur@rug.nl by November 1, 2023) would be useful for planning the review stage, but is not required for manuscript submission.
Submission Instructions: To submit to JSLHR, go to http://www.editorialmanager.com/JSLHR. Under the “Section/Category” section, you will be asked to indicate that this manuscript is a candidate for a special issue or forum by selecting “Speech—IVSDP” from the drop-down list provided.
