For nearly a century, ASHA’s journals have been the premiere place to publish research on communication sciences and disorders. Our 2024 Journal Impact Factors™ (JIFs) highlight the continued impact of the work we publish.

Journal Impact Factors™ from the Clarivate Analytics Journal Citation Reports™ convey the citation-based impact of the articles in our journals and help us evaluate other key indicators of how they are being used. Journal Impact Factors™ are reported as a 3-year average, with a 5-year average used to provide further context. Learn more about JIFs below!

Updated Impact Factors for Each Journal

Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools experienced the biggest growth, reporting a JIF of 2.9 and a 5-year impact factor of 3.2. These numbers represent an increase of 30% and 18% respectively! The 5-year JIF marks an all-time high for the journal.

The American Journal of Audiology saw its JIF rise to 1.8, for both the 3- and 5-year term. The 3-year score represents an increase of more than 25% over last year’s JIF. AJA saw its largest number of total citations in 2024, and the journal’s 3-year JIF matched an all-time high.

The American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology also showed consistent growth, with a 2024 JIF of 2.5 and a 5-year JIF of 3.1, a 3-year high. Together, LSHSS and AJSLP were ranked as the top two speech-language pathology journals in terms of JIF.

Finally, our largest journal, the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, saw its JIF remain steady at 2.2 while the 5-year JIF went up to 2.8. We also saw a sharp rise in the journal’s immediacy index, meaning more articles are being cited within a year of being published. This highlights the timeliness of the research published, and it is an indicator of the growing visibility, relevance, and value of the journal.

Recognizing Your Impact

Of course, all of the work we do wouldn’t be possible without the work of our authors, reviewers, editors, and editors-in-chief. These new JIFs represent the hard work you’ve done in 2024 and beyond. Thank you for your dedication to providing ASHA members with the latest research they need to make a difference for the people they serve.

If you’re interested in how your article (or your favorite article) is performing, you can find article-level citation data from Dimensions and Scite for all of our journals on the right hand side of the article. The numbers are available at a glance, and you can click on each to bring up detailed reports including citation history and even which citations support or contrast the information.

As we do every year, we’ve updated our JIFS in a number of places, particularly on ASHAWire. We keep our readers and contributors updated on our Impact Factors as new information becomes available from the Journal Citation Reports™ published by Clarivate Analytics.
