Perspectives – Doctorate of Audiology Student Capstone Projects 2024

Guest Editor: Michael de Riesthal
Contact Info: michael.r.de.riesthal@vumc.org
Publication Date: October, 2024

NOTE: The due date for submissions to this forum or special issue has passed. This listing remains to provide important dates for those who have submitted papers.

All graduate students in audiology are encouraged to submit their scientific and/or clinical work associated with pursuit of their Audiology Doctoral degrees (e.g., audiology capstone projects) for publication in this inaugural audiology forum.

Specifically, this forum will be a collaborative publication across ASHA’s Audiology Special Interest Groups (SIGs): Hearing and Balance Sciences (SIG 6), Auditory Rehabilitation (SIG 7), Public Health Audiology (SIG 8), and Pediatric Hearing and Hearing Disorders (SIG 9). The goal of this forum is to provide space within an ASHA, professional, peer-reviewed publication to highlight and disseminate the valuable scientific and clinical work of students pursuing their Audiology Doctoral degrees in graduate programs across the United States of America.

The following article types will be considered: Research Article, Research Note, Review Article, Tutorial, and Commentary. We welcome a wide range of submissions that, for example, examine a complex research question in hearing healthcare, share clinical tutorials for clinicians working with individuals affected by hearing or balance difficulties, or provide commentary on issues regarding hearing healthcare. Consistent with the mission of Perspectives of the ASHA Special Interest Groups, we seek to publish original, important, and innovative work that aims to bridge the gap from research to practice and advance knowledge translation in the field of hearing and balance. Student authors are encouraged to contact the Editor (brittan.barker@usu.edu) if they have questions or would like to discuss potential submissions.

Submission deadline: Manuscripts should be submitted by August 1, 2024 to be considered as part of this collection. A letter of intent to submit (sent to the Editor at brittan.barker@usu.edu by July 1, 2024) would be useful for planning the review stage but is not required for manuscript submission.

Submission Instructions: To submit to Perspectives, go to https://www.editorialmanager.com/perspectives. Under the “Section/Category” section, you will be asked to indicate that which SIG is the best fit for your manuscript. Please choose SIG 7 (your final SIG destination will manually be assigned by editorial staff). Finally in your cover letter, make sure you indicate that (1) your manuscript is to be considered for our “AuD Capstone 2024 forum” and (2) the SIG you’d like your manuscript to be affiliated with (i.e. SIG 6, 7, 8, or 9).

Note that it is not expected that students will serve as the sole author of the work submitted for publication consideration. Although the goal of this Forum to highlight AuD student work, ASHA is very aware that much student work can’t make it to publication without the support of faculty and collaborators. We ask that graduate students make sure to properly include all such individuals in the submission process and list them as authors when appropriate.
