This forum for the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research aims to jumpstart a scholarly dialogue on reproducibility of research in our fields. Recent initiatives of the ASHA Journals including Registered Reports and Open Science Badges provide an important path toward wide spread adoption of best practices for promoting reproducible research. However, current adoption of open science practices (e.g., preregistration, open access to stimuli and de-identified data, open access to reproducible analysis pipelines, replication) for research published in the ASHA journals remains low compared to related fields, which suggests that greater engagement with themes surrounding reproducibility is warranted. In this collection, we aim to curate a body of literature that will (1) explore and demonstrate the importance of reproducible research for the speech, language, and hearing sciences, (2) provide training on best practices for promoting reproducible research, and (3) consider important nuance in adhering to reproducibility principles, including factors that may be unique to our fields.
The following article types will be considered: Research Article, Research Note, Review Article, Tutorial, and Commentary. We welcome a wide range of submissions that, for example, examine adoption of and perceived barriers to open science practices, provide tutorials that extend researchers’ ability to adopt open science practices, report successful or failed replication studies, or provide commentary on issues of importance for promoting reproducibility in our fields. Authors are encouraged to contact the Editor (rachel.theodore@uconn.edu) if they have questions or would like to discuss potential submissions.
Submission deadline: Manuscripts should be submitted by May 31, 2022 to be considered as part of this collection. A letter of intent to submit (sent to the Editor at rachel.theodore@uconn.edu by March 31, 2022) would be useful for planning the review stage, but is not required for manuscript submission.
Submission Instructions: To submit to JSLHR, go to http://www.editorialmanager.com/JSLHR. Under the “Section/Category” section, you will be asked to indicate that this manuscript is a candidate for a special issue or forum by selecting “Speech—Promoting Reproducibility Forum” from the drop-down list provided.
